The past two decades have witnessed prosperity in R&D of burgeoning structural health monitoring (SHM). However, SHM techniques, particular those make use of guided waves, are confronted a few of inherent bottlenecks including the restricted information that conventional linear features can convey, the inefficiency in detecting small-scale damage (e.g., fatigue cracks), and dilemma in striking a compromise between “sensing cost” and “sensing effectiveness”. All these have created a vast barrier towards the real-world deployment of the techniques developed in laboratories. Motivated by this, this talk summarizes the efforts dedicated by the research team led by the presenter over the years, with a hope to circumvent these bottlenecks, partially if not completely. In particular, a coated sensor network made of carbon black and PVDF will be introduced, which is able to facilitate in-situ active sensing of ultrasonic elastic waves. Innovatively, the sensor network can be deposited onto structures under inspection. Such a sensing philosophy retrofits conventional sensor network design, by providing a novel, quick and convenient means to configure a sensor network with quasi-dispersed sensing elements, and circumvents the possible drawbacks associated with the use of distributed sensors (e.g., PZT).

苏众庆博士现为香港理工大学机械工程系教授。主要研究方向包括结构健康监测、无损检测、超声波、传感器及传感器网络技术、以及智能材料与结构。于北京航空航天大学获得航空学学士及硕士学位,随后在澳大利亚政府全额奖学金资助下于悉尼大学航空、机械与机电工程学院获得博士学位。之后在澳大利亚联邦博士后研究员计划(Australian Research Council – Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship (ARC-APF))的支持下于2005-2006年在悉尼大学从事博士后研究,直至2007年加入香港理工大学任职助理教授;2011年在该校“杰出晋升计划”(fast-track promotion scheme for outstanding faculty)下,晋升为副教授(tenured) 并于2016年成为正教授。目前在香港理工大学领导一个研究团队,致力于结构健康监测技术的研发,并主持结构动态实验室的工作。已经及正在指导十五名博士,以及包括博士后在内的多名科研人员。苏众庆教授目前担任多个结构健康监测领域权威期刊的副主编,主要包括Elsevier旗下Ultrasonics和Journal of Sound and Vibration,SAGE出版发行的Structural Health Monitoring: An International Journal,ASME发行的Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, Diagnostics and Prognostics of Engineering Systems以及Structural Monitoring and Maintenance: An International Journal, Structural Engineering and Mechanics: An International Journal等。苏众庆教授出版了两部英文专著、编辑了四部英文专著及国际会议论文集、多部英文专著章节,以及超过230篇的科技文章,其中包括130篇的SCI收录期刊文章,以及100余篇的国际会议文章。其中由Springer-Verlag出版的“Identification of Damage Using Lamb Waves: From Fundamentals to Applications” 为该领域第一本全面阐述该技术的专著。截止2018年初,发表的文章获得了超过5000次的引用(目前H-index 为38)。其中三篇分列权威SCI期刊NDT&E International,Journal of Sound and Vibration,以及Structural Health Monitoring全球排名第一、第二以及第五的“最被引用文章”。最高单篇引用超过1000次。2012年荣获“结构健康监测-年度成就奖”(Structural Health Monitoring - Person of The Year (SHM-POY) Award)。2011年获得香港理工大学“校长特设卓越成就奖(研究类)”。2015年获得欧盟科技创新奖,及教育部2015年度高等学校科学研究优秀成果奖。苏众庆教授为2018年第七届亚太健康监测国际会议(The 7th Asia-Pacific Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring 2018)的主席。
